Azores Wine Company António Maçanita A Proibida Tinto 2018 is a red wine produced by António Maçanita on Pico Island, in the Azores.
It is a field blend of up to eight native grape varieties from old vines, with Isabella as the dominant grape—an unauthorized variety within the D.O., to which this wine pays tribute.
Around 30% of the grapes are destemmed while 70% are left as whole clusters. The wine undergoes a maceration with skins for one month and ferments spontaneously using native yeasts.
Aging takes place over 30 months, combining stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, resulting in a complex and distinctive expression.
