Phelan Farm Scythian 2022 Red Wine
Phelan Farm Scythian Red 2022 is a red wine produced by Phelan Farm in Cambria, California. The blend consists of four grape varieties: Zinfandel (50%), Alicante Bouschet (30%), Mission(10%), and Grenache(10%). The vineyard soils are particularly distinctive, combining Cambria felsite (a felsic volcanic-origin soil) and Franciscan metamorphism (a mix of Cretaceous-era rocks). The vines are old, originally planted in 1912.
The grapes are not destemmed and undergo a 3-week maceration in stainless steel tanks, followed by spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is aged for 8 months in used 500L oak barrels. This is a natural red wine—fruit-forward, juicy, and vibrant.
