Verónica Ortega Quite 2023 Red Wine
Verónica Ortega Quite Red 2023 is a red wine produced by Verónica Ortega winery in Valtuille, El Bierzo.
The wine is a blend of 95% Mencía and 5% other varieties, sourced from vineyards with clay-sandy soils and river stones in Valtuille de Abajo. The vines are trained in bush (gobelet) style.
Most of the grapes are destemmed, with 15% whole clusters. Maceration with the skins is very short, not exceeding 5 days. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by 16 months of aging—10 months in large French oak tronconic vats (6,000, 5,500, 3,500, and 2,500 liters) and the remaining 6 months in 500-liter barrels.
